Putting an end to this popular search term “why my business isn’t growing”
Year over year, what I always notice is that business owners treat their business goals like their new years resolutions. It is great to establish goals at the beginning of the year. It’s exciting and exhilarating. What becomes problematic is if the you lose any momentum, then all the hard work goes to waste.
If your personal goal is to lose 5 pounds and eat healthy at the start of the new year, then your motivation alone will take you to February. You need more to sustain your goals. You need a Toronto Business Coach that can keep you accountable to your goals.
When I discovered that one of the long tail keywords a Canadian Business Coach should use to promote themselves was “why my business isn’t growing”, I was not not surprised. Small business growth is not easy in this current Canadian climate. There is very little margin for error during economic stress and business owners need to work so much more efficiently while keeping their foot on the gas at all times. Naturally, that is exhausting and can lead to burn out.
Working with clients all across Canada, Southern Ontario, and Toronto, I know the strain and hardship the business owners are going through. Your business can still grow! Here are my suggestions to implement for 2026 to keep your momentum high and continue to thrive.
1) Be consistent. I put this as number one for a reason. Entrepreneurs tend to try things for a short period of time and then slow down an initiative, or stop all together. Being consistent and setting reminders will help you continue to build off what you start. For example, if you started creating content for a new social media platform, and you have committed to it, and it’s working, then you need to stay consistent.
2) Plan ahead. Yes, things might change, but creating a calendar to plan ahead (6 months) is crucial to forecasting your future. For example, if you generate leads by attending, or exhibiting at trade shows, then get them on your calendar and prepare in advance so you budget your time and finances accordingly.
3) Try something new. Your business is like a tree. It goes through the infancy stage where it needs plenty of sun and water and that’s when you put in the most energy. As it matures to a teenager, it needs less, until finally it grows independently with the aid of mother nature. At a certain point it can start to rot. To avoid rotting that tree may need some attention. Experimenting with new ways to keep it healthy like pruning for maintenance or mulching correctly. Experimenting with your business is important to avoid rotting. Try new marketing methods slowly. If they are showing signs of success, keep going!
My final thought. Be aware of what is changing in your industry. Stay in the know. Sign up for relevant emails from professionals. Talk to other business owners. Read between the lines so you never have to ask chat gpt “why my business isn’t growing?”.
