Canadians have been resting on their laurels.

It was and eventful week in Canada, and on January 6, 2025 I heard Donald Trump say, before he was even President, that he would acquire Canada without force. It hit me then that a successful businessman, born with a silver spoon in his mouth had his eyes set on our fresh water, and natural resources. In that moment he started the negotiation process to make Canada the 51st state. A subversion tactic that has left Canadians starting to wonder if we should even consider it.

Over the past couple of weeks I have been connecting with my clients, and as their Marketing & Business Coach I have been asking how they plan to get ahead of the threat. Some have not even considered it, while others are all over the idea of investigating new revenue streams and markets, agreeing that Canada might have been resting on our laurels depending on standing business from our neighbours.

The good news is, regardless of what happens with tariffs continuing to rise, our government is now hyper aware of the fact that we need to reach new markets to sell our precious resources. Never again will Canada rely entirely on America. It ends with Trump.

If you are reading this, then you understand that standing by while the USA attempts a hostile takeover (I’m being dramatic, but it’s not that far of a reach) of the Canadian economy will not suffice. You need to be reactive and proactive. Invest in your business and your marketing. Reach out to me directly to set up a consultation to discuss the possibility of implementing a new marketing strategy for your business.
