Don’t neglect the boomers.

Sometimes it is tempting to mock the boomers with trendy terms like “ok boomer”, or giggle at your parents or grandparents technological skills, but it might be time to resist those temptations and lean into this demographic if you are a business owner who wants to make more money.

My job as a Marketing & Business Coach in Toronto is to help business owners find new ways of making money by teaching them what to look for while considering their market opportunities. My approach is to follow the money!

Did you know that baby boomers watch just as much You tube as the Alpha generation? Who would have thought that a generation that does not excel at technology, rivals the Youtube airtime of children? Definitely not me.

Let’s be honest with ourselves. While all the other generations are struggling with money, the one that has the firmest grip on it is the oldest living population next to the silent generation (made up of people born between 1928 and 1945). Often times retired, semi-retired, or on the verge or retiring, their money holds the most value as it has been able to grow over time. They likely have a significant amount more of savings compared to Gen X, and Gen Z, and they having buying power that includes anything from alcohol and cannabis, to children’s toys.

Now is the time for all businesses to pay attention to the needs and wants of boomers. Looking out for opportunities to sell your goods or services will pay off in a short period of time, primarily because they are being neglected by so many brands. Big companies are distracted by the young blood, but you don’t have to be. Create a revenue stream that attracts this demographic. If you can not think of one, connect with a company that you can create with.

Using Youtube as a portal to advertise to them would be your easiest and best method to reach this audience, since we know they are active on that platform. The baby boomers respect anybody that respects them. Take the time to learn about their life and what they need. That will help you understand how you can market to them.
